There appears to be a book-shaped question inside the work.
That is how Candour prefers to begin with a writer: from something already done, not from a pile of unread manuscripts.
Early acquisition is curated commissioning and outbound scouting. The house looks for domain experts, researchers, practitioners and founders, public thinkers with substantive work, academics who can reach a general reader, and a few authors whose rights have reverted or who have already published the work themselves.
Writers may still approach without an agent. The door is the idea, not the file. Submissions takes a proposal. It does not take a manuscript upload, and it is not a promise to read everything that arrives.
Candour House Press does not charge author publication fees, require authors to buy copies, or sell mandatory marketing upgrades. It is intended as a selective, publisher-funded press. The contract terms that would govern a book are drafts and need UK legal review before use.
Researchers
No Candour Question is open, and no Challenge is accepting investigators. When one is, the invitation will name the question, the form of the work, and what would count as progress — including the possibility that the premise fails.
