Ideas & Society
Arguments, institutions, systems and assumptions that deserve another look.
CANDOUR HOUSE PRESS
candour /ˈkændə/ noun
Certainty is easy to manufacture. Candour is not.
Independent books on technology, work, money and the decisions that shape ordinary lives.
I · The House
CANDOUR exists because too much of modern life is built on managed impressions: marketing disguised as insight, certainty disguised as expertise, and outrage disguised as principle.
We publish work that makes the world more visible — not by pretending difficult questions are simple, but by examining them properly. We value evidence over assertion, substance over spectacle and intellectual independence over inherited scripts.
Candour is not cruelty or bluntness for its own sake. It is the good-faith decision to say what is real, clearly and respectfully, especially when easier stories are available.
II · The List
Real people. Real events. Serious inquiry. Work worth returning to after the news cycle has moved on.
Arguments, institutions, systems and assumptions that deserve another look.
Entrepreneurship, organisations, leadership, decisions and economic life.
AI, science, systems and the forces changing how we live and build.
Biography and memoir where a single life reveals something larger.
Documented accounts and interpretation grounded in evidence.
True stories told with the craft, pace and humanity they deserve.
First list · 2026
The opening Candour list brings together books about uncertainty, action, better questions and practical change.
III · The Catalogue
A pocket guide for the stuck moments in ordinary life: when to try something small, when to commit, and how to tell which one you're facing.
A Field Guide to thriving in an Answer-Rich World
What happens when answers become abundant and the quality of questions becomes the real advantage — written for young people finding their footing in an answer-rich world.
The Hidden Architecture of Action Under Uncertainty
Movement under changing conditions — how to act when the map shifts faster than your plan.
IV · The Standard
Truth before tribe
Ideas should not be bent to flatter an audience, ideology, author or trend.
Clarity before theatre
Difficult ideas should be made intelligible without being made simplistic.
Evidence before assertion
Large claims require sources, reasoning and the discipline to show the joins.
Courage with care
Uncomfortable truths matter. So does the humanity of the people inside them.
Is it true? Is it clear? Is it necessary? Is it useful?
The Candour test
V · CANDOUR WORKS
Candour House Press is the publishing imprint of CANDOUR WORKS. The house is deliberately bigger than any one author: a growing catalogue united by an editorial attitude rather than a personality.
See clearly. Think independently. Act honestly.
