Standards
What the house will and will not claim.
These are working public standards. They describe intent and present practice. They are not a certificate, and the underlying agreements still need UK legal review.
Review
An expert reading a manuscript is not, by that fact, peer review. The house prefers a label that says what happened:
- Independently reviewed
- Subject reviewed
- Evidence reviewed
- Methodological review
- Practitioner reviewed
Formal peer-review language waits for a documented process that deserves it. The practice used on books is the Candour Review Standard. The values behind it are on Principles.
The other standards
- Editorial independence — Candour House keeps editorial control of work published under its imprint.
- Sponsor independence — Sponsors fund questions. They do not buy answers.
- Conflicts of interest — A conflict is declared and managed. It does not automatically disqualify someone.
- AI use and rights — Named people remain responsible for the claims, the sources and the conclusion.
- Corrections and retractions — A material factual error should be corrected in public, in proportion to the error.
